Well, this is a book that I feel failed to live up to it's potential. What should have been a storyline full of pent up passion, humor and a slow simmering romance fell flat. I can enjoy a couple that bickers and spars with each other but this was TOO MUCH! The way that the hero carried on in this book turned him into a real jerk and I never felt he was sorry for any of it and this made me really dislike him. There where some humorous moments in the book from secondary characters. These were truly enjoyable and greatly appreciated. Plot was good, secondary characters enriched the read, this couple for me though didn't work.

I enjoyed reading this book, it was an easy romance and nothing too dramatic to worry about. Story is about Milli and Beau. Milli is a single mother to a baby she had from a one night stand two years ago. She is helping her grandfather while he is out recovering from a hip replacement. She has an encounter out in the farm with her grandfather's neighbor, only to realize Beau was the man she had a one night stand with two years ago. Beau feels strange around Milli, like he knew her before but yet couldn't quite figure it out.
Beau was a very nice guy, too nice, some would say. He was good at many things, successful in his ranch but always unlucky in love. He had the most spectacular night of his life with a girl two years ago only to have her disappear. He wasn't quite sure if he had dreamed of his Amelia, and was always holding on to the dream. He was a little drunk and everyone insisted there was no Amelia.
He couldn't understand what it was about Milli that kept him drawn to her like a moth. Storyline is one I've read many times, so it was no surpris to see how it ended. I didn't totally love the book because I felt that both characters, Milli and Beau, were too much of contradicting characters to make me feel like they belonged together or that their connection was real besides the physical chemistry and the fact that they both loved ranching. I liked reading it, it was free afterall, but probably wouldn't be a book to read twice.
After reading the other reviews, I wasn't expecting much. I can't make myself delete books that I've already downloaded without giving them a chance, so my thought was to start it, verify after a couple chapters how bad it was, so I could write it off & delete it. However, since my expectations were so low, I actually found it humorous & read the whole thing. It's about as deep as a comic strip.
I totally agree with others who said the writing is terrible. Several indicated there were too many colloquialisms, but I couldn't have imagined the extent they were used or how really bad they were. Main characters came across as illiterate. They just acted too stupid to even connect.
Sex/steam rating There were a couple of high overview love scenes. You were given enough information to know they had sex, but no details.
If you find it for free and don't want anything serious, it MIGHT be an OK read. Absolutely not worth paying any money for. That would have just made me mad.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley (not realizing it was a re-release that I had already purchased but hadn't read.)
This was a wonderful story. There were some really great scenes in this book. I just fell in love with the characters. The plot was one that just seemed to enchant me from the beginning. I REALLY have to not start reading in the late evening as I didn't want to put this down. I enjoyed this story immensely. I have noticed that books are being re-released some with even new titles (this one has the same title.) Be careful if you are a Carolyn Brown fan, you may already have this book. I would recommend this story to anyone.
4.5 Stars, Enjoyable romance
Spitfire vixen Milli Torres, lucky at everything except love Beau Luckadeau and their daughter Katy Scarlet is a realistic, humorous story of backwards family relationship being built to last.
Easy to follow storyline. Believable characters with distinct personalities. Entertaining dialogue.
Milli does not take any guff. Women chasing Beau and calling her names quickly learn this fact.
Knowledge
Poppy hadn’t mentioned anything happening to her, but if she was able to run the Bar M, she sure wouldn’t hire a foreman.
Especially an egotistical male chauvinist who jumped to conclusions and let his dump-truck mouth get ahead of his bicycle butt.
Relationships
She might not be a first-class bitch like Amanda, but she damned sure wasn’t about to be one of those submissive little women who walked two feet behind her husband and lived and breathed just to make his world perfect. She fully well intended to have a marriage like her own parents had, like Poppy and Granny, too. Like a business relationship on the ranch, each one pulled their own weight and took care of their responsibilities. A business relationship with hot steamy nights; she moaned just thinking about it.
There are a few editing errors which dropped my review to 4.5.
I will re-read this story and always look forward to works by this author.
